Level 7 - Early Digital Civilization
Establish knowledge economy and communication networks.
This chapter focuses on rebuilding and advancing digital infrastructure at a community and regional level to foster a knowledge-based economy and effective communication systems. It begins with the fundamentals of microcontroller-level electronics manufacturing, enabling the creation of simple yet essential electronic devices. The chapter then explores the establishment of networked computers through local area networks and intranets, facilitating data sharing and collaboration within settlements.
Cross-settlement wireless communication methods such as LoRa, shortwave, and mesh networks are covered next, providing reliable long-distance connectivity without dependence on large-scale infrastructure. Building on this, local ISP-like services are introduced, including static websites, file sharing, and email systems to support digital communication and information exchange.
Identity and credential systems are discussed to ensure secure access and trust within digital networks. The chapter also addresses the development of local economies and trade systems through tokens and currencies, promoting economic activity in a post-collapse environment. Legal codification and civic institutions are examined to establish governance and public services.
Public health and census systems are included to manage community well-being and resources effectively. Education infrastructure is emphasized with the creation of public education and local universities to preserve and disseminate knowledge. Finally, the chapter covers renewable energy solutions such as wind, water, and early solar electrical systems to power these digital and civic advancements sustainably.
